ZOOM Kinder Museum

We love the ZOOM Museum in Vienna. It is a children’s museum with different activities to choose from. All activities are offered in both English and German. Today we went to the Ocean exhibit, which is geared toward younger children, ages 0-6. They have a “Big Sisters and Brothers” time scheduled in the afternoons on Fridays and Saturdays so we could go with all the kids during those times. It is basically a big ocean themed playground. Even though it was meant for younger children, all the kids really enjoyed it.

The boys really liked the ship in the top half of the exhibit. You could drive the ship, talk through the radio, push lots of shining buttons, and play with the magnetic boats on the map wall. The workers are really great and play with the kids, show them how things work, and give them new ideas on how to use different toys in the play area.

In this section of the boat, the kids got to lower and raise the hook on a rope to pick up various supplies and drop them down into the hold.

There was a submarine in the back section of the museum. This was a nice place to play because it was less crowded than the rest of the exhibit even though there was a lot to do in there. Marion would not allow me to take any photos of her, but she found a costume room. The dressed up as a leopard (found on the jungle island where the boat lands, of course) and wandered about pretending to eat fish, building homes for herself, and playing with Elora.

James loved the submarine. These a big puzzle pieces that stick with magnets to the wall. He played with the puzzle pieces several times on our visit.

There was also a section with a big magnifying glass and various items to look at. James really liked this too. Each visit to the Ocean is an hour long. It flew by and the kids couldn’t believe it had been that long when it was time to leave. We plan to go again soon. We bought passes to the ZOOM museum so we can go back every few weeks. This is only one of the exhibits! Next time we will check out a different one.
